Hydrogen Café was an ambient music blog that ran from
August 21st, 2016 until October 23rd, 2010. In its short
lifespan, it was an extremely influential refuge of ambient mixology and helped set
the stage for future ambient mix podcasters. It was created by a mystery
individual who simply called himself ‘nrvnet’. Hydrogen Café cleverly referenced the joys
of coffee drinking throughout its run and named mixes after personal interests
(the books The Dharma Bums and Desolation Angels, and the artist Brian Eno, for
example). nrvnet sites the reason for discontinuing Hydrogen Café as he did not
“really have the motivation or the muse to do it anymore”. Sad, but true.
Many people throughout the years have visited the
now-defunct blog in search of the mixes to no avail. As an avid music
collector, I was able to uncover these mixes on a 4th generation iPod and took the music from the device (NOTE: SPECIAL THANKS TO ALEX FOR HOOKING ME UP WITH THE FEW THAT I WAS MISSING!). I updated the mixes and developed new
artwork and tags and decided to basically recreate the blog with a more modern feel. I also chose to only focus on reposting those blog entries with music and none of the commentary only entries as they contain a ton of dead links (which might be prevalent in just about anything else as well, I didn't check).
Appreciate the efforts of those that produce and share such
niche podcasts, for their reward is the fact that they get to share with you
the art of others that they conceive to be a part of a bigger picture. Enjoy
the revitalized sounds of Hydrogen Café! Peace.
